YORGOS NOUSIS

about his compositions on his latest album Guitaltruism

The CD contains pieces for guitar solo, guitar & oud and guitar duets that are easy to listen to. The structure of the compositions is simple and focuses more on emotions and the different colors of the guitar. I wrote many of these tunes for young children, so the music is mostly simplistic and calm.

“SIX PIECES OF JOY AND MELANCHOLY” and “SEPT SCENES MUSICALES” are a collection of  simple short melodies which aim to introduce the younger generation of guitarists to the newest classical guitar music. Many of those pieces were already obligatory pieces for kids' competitions.
“210” is a six movement suite written for two guitars.
It is just a number that can be translated differently from anyone who listens-performs the piece.
I hereby attach the introductory text used for the publication by DOBERMAN-YPPAN:
Could a number bring joy, laughter, excitement or sadness, create memories and stories, inspire a new creation, unite two people, or even hide a secret?
210 is the magic number that may contain all of the above.
...Dedicated to the unpredictability of our small yet meaningful lives...
“SANS ESPOIR” was originally composed for piano and “TRAPPE FATALE” for clarinet and small brass ensemble. They were  both later rearranged for two guitars. Both pieces are considered as “film music” since they were themes for a documentary and a short film respectively.
“PULSO DE LA  VIDA” is composed and dedicated to my dear friend Kostas Tosidis for the purpose of his PHD with the title “Bow technique on guitar play”.
It is a piece imitating the Cello and the way we can borrow some of its techniques and translate them in a guitaristic way.
“BALADA ORIENTAL” is written and dedicated to my friends Antonis Koufoudakis -guitar- and Nikolas Palaiologos -Oud- who also perform the piece on the CD. As the name is pointing out, it is an oriental ballad and it is trying to mix and bond the east and the west in a way of “structured freedom”.
GUITALTRUISM is a name  I came up with when I was trying to figure out the purpose of this CD but also the purpose of my art. Combining the word Guitar together with altruism, this CD and my music in general is my gift to the listeners and potential performers.
It is a simple way to express the gratitude of being able to create art that might affect and inspire some people.
